Colombo, Sri Lanka, Sept. 24 -- Ministry of Defence and Urban Development issued the following news release:
The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), and the Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), attended the 77th Anniversary Celebration of the Founding of the People's Republic of China, held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo yesterday evening (23 September).
The event was hosted by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Sri Lanka to commemorate the National Day of the People's Republic of China.
Upon their arrival, the Deputy Minister of Defence and the Defence Secretary were received by the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. Wei Huaziang.
Minister of Ports, Civil Aviation and Energy, Hon. Anura Karunathilaka, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering, including Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, politicians, members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials, senior officers of the tri-forces, and other distinguished invitees.
