Army troops successfully rescued residents affected by flooding in the Kotagala and Blackwater areas of Ginigathhena this afternoon (03 Aug) and relocated them to safe locations following the sudden rise in water levels.
The flooding occurred after the Hatton Oya, which flows from Hatton to Nawalapitiya, overflowed its banks, inundating a row of estate line houses in the Blackwater area of Ginigathhena.
Responding promptly to the emergency, troops of the 56 Infantry Division Headquarters stationed in Kotagala carried out rescue operations and safely evacuated 24 affected families who had been at risk due to the floodwaters.
The timely intervention of the Army ensured the safe evacuation of estate residents trapped by the rising floodwaters, demonstrating the Armed Forces' continued commitment to safeguarding lives and providing assistance to communities during natural disasters.
