Colombo, Sri Lanka, Nov. 28 -- Ministry of Defence and Urban Development issued the following news release:
A contingent of Army personnel rescued 38 elders from the Kailagoda Elders' Home, ensuring their safe transfer to the Disaster Relief Services Centre for continued care, protection, and essential support.
In the Rambukwella area along the A26 route, Army troops, working jointly with the Sri Lanka Police and the Road Development Authority (RDA), responded to a significant road blockage caused by the severe weather. Restoration efforts commenced immediately, with teams working to reopen the route and restore normal traffic flow.
Meanwhile, troops of the 211 Infantry Brigade provided urgent assistance to local authorities in Horowpothana, where the spill of the Kakulbadidigiliya Tank had been damaged due to heavy rainfall on 26 November 2025. Their prompt intervention enabled the embankment to be reinforced, preventing further water discharge. By evening, the tank structure had been stabilised, securing the continuous supply of irrigation water vital for local agricultural activities.
