Major General V.D.S Perera was invited to the Office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 21 April 2025, along with his family members, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army after completing a distinguished career spanning 35 years.
Brief profile of the retiring Senior Officer:
Major General V.D.S Perera enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 03 November 1990 into the Intake KDA 08. Upon successfully completing military training at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy in Ratmalana and the Sri Lanka Military Academy in Diyatalawa, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Light Infantry on 14 November 1992. After steadily elevating through the ranks, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 03 May 2024. The Senior Officer will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 23 April 2025, upon reaching 55 years of age.
Throughout his career, he has held various appointments including Platoon Commander of the 7th Battalion, Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Officer Commanding of the 7th and 10th Battalions, Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Staff Officer 3 (Administration and Logistics) of the 211 Infantry Brigade, Instructor of the Non-Commissioned Officers' Training School (NCOTS), Second-in-Command of the 4th Reinforcement (RFT) Battalion, Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Chief Instructor of the Advanced Infantry Platoon Training (AIPT) School in Kilinochchi, Officiating Staff Officer 1 (Administration) of the 51 Infantry Division, Commanding Officer of the 11th Battalion, Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Commanding Officer of the Centre for Army Vocational Training (CAVT), Colonel (General Staff) of 68 Infantry Division, Officiating Commander of the 574 Infantry Brigade, Officiating Commander of the 573 Infantry Brigade, Commander of the 642 Infantry Brigade, Commander of the 533 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier (General Staff) of Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna), Director (Military Liaison) of the Office of the Honourable President, General Officer Commanding of the 64 Infantry Division and General Officer Commanding of the 52 Infantry Division.
The Senior Officer has completed numerous local and foreign courses during his military career including the Child Rights and Protection Course (organised by the United Nations Children's Fund in Sri Lanka), the Young Officers Course in India, Officers All Arms Field Engineering and Watermanship Course in Pakistan, Junior Command Course in India and the Senior Command Course in India.
The Senior Officer has obtained higher educational and professional qualifications including a Certificate in Information Technology (IT) for Smart Executives conducted by Orient Academy Limited, Certificate in Computer Applications at IDM Computer Studies (Private) Limited, Diploma in Senior Level Defence Management at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya in India, Bachelor of Arts (Defence Studies) at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy and Master of Public Administration at the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM), University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
