In an era where digital infrastructure is as critical as physical borders, securing regional government institutions against evolving cyber threats has become a national priority. In response to these emerging challenges and with the objective of strengthening the "Human Firewall" strategy, the Cyber Security Awareness Program was successfully conducted at the Puttalam District Secretariat on 24 July 2026, under the direction of the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs.
The landmark initiative was spearheaded by Brigadier KVP Dhammika USP ptsc, Director of the Defence Cyber Command (DCC), who led a specialised elite team of expert DCC officers. The workshop aimed to equip local administrative officials with the strategic knowledge, technical skills, and defensive mindsets required to safeguard public sector assets against modern digital adversaries.
The session drew strong engagement from senior regional leadership, emphasising the administrative sector's commitment to digital hygiene and resilience. Among the notable participants were Pubudika S. Bandara, Additional District Secretary, and RM Damayanthi, District Women Development Officer, whose presence highlighted the growing, cross departmental interest in cyber hygiene across government sectors.
Key personnel attended the intensive training, representing various administrative divisions within the secretariat. The workshop spanned a rigorous curriculum designed to bridge the gap between high level geopolitical cyber strategy and everyday operational security:
The workshop concluded with a lively open Q&A session, giving participants the opportunity to consult directly with Defence Cyber Command specialists on specific operational vulnerabilities. As government services continue to digitise, programs like the one held in Puttalam set a benchmark for proactive governance, ensuring that the public sector remains vigilant, educated, and resilient against digital threats.
