Colombo, Sri Lanka, June 1 -- Ministry of Defence and Urban Development issued the following news release:

In a proactive move to fortify the digital resilience of the nation's vital health infrastructure, the Defence Cyber Command (DCC) of the Ministry of Defence successfully conducted a comprehensive Cybersecurity Awareness Programme for the staff of the Epidemiology Unit at the Ministry of Health on May 27, 2026.

The session was led by a distinguished panel of military cyber experts, including the Director of the Defence Cyber Command and cybersecurity engineers.

As critical government sectors increasingly rely on interconnected digital frameworks, protecting sensitive health data and securing public health networks has become a paramount national security priority. Recognising this need, the DCC designed a specialised curriculum tailored to the specific operational environment of health officials.

The extensive session covered several critical domains, including: Introduction to Cybersecurity & the Cyber Threat Landscape: Understanding modern digital risks and how state and non-state actors exploit vulnerabilities. Cybersecurity Best Practices & Digital Hygiene: Practical steps for everyday security, from password management to identifying phishing attempts. Cyber Crimes & How to Stay Safe: Real-world case studies of digital fraud and mitigation strategies to prevent data breaches. Cyber Law & National Security: An overview of the legal frameworks governing Sri Lanka's digital space and the collective responsibility of public servants in safeguarding national infrastructure.

The program was highly interactive, allowing participants from the Epidemiology Unit to engage directly with the facilitators during vibrant Q&A segments. The attendees warmly received the insights, noting that the practical takeaways would immediately enhance their day-to-day digital operations.

By bridging the gap between national defence and public health administration, the Defence Cyber Command continues to drive Sri Lanka's overarching strategy of building a resilient, secure, and digitally conscious public sector.
