A high-level progress review meeting on Sri Lanka's disaster preparedness and mitigation initiatives was held today (17 November) at the Disaster Management Division premises. The session was chaired by Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), with the participation of heads and senior officials from the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), Department of Meteorology, National Building Research Organisation (NBRO), National Disaster Relief Services Centre (NDRSC), and other relevant agencies.
The meeting reviewed the progress of three major national projects: the Climate Resilience Improvement and Stabilization Project (CRISMP), the Risk-Led Building and Maintenance Management Project (RLBMMP), and the Doppler Weather Radar Establishment Project. Officials discussed the current status of these initiatives and their importance in strengthening Sri Lanka's disaster forecasting and preparedness.
The readiness of several other disaster management projects was also assessed, with emphasis on the need for timely budgetary allocations for their implementation.
Emphasizing coordinated national efforts, the Defence Secretary called for enhanced inter-agency cooperation and efficient project execution to further improve Sri Lanka's capacity to manage natural and human-induced disasters.
