The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), conducted a field inspection visit to several key locations in the Jaffna Peninsula on Tuesday (26 May).
Joining the Deputy Minister for the field visit were the Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, Hon. Ramalingam Chandrasekar, the District Secretary of Jaffna, and relevant government officials.
During the visit, the Deputy Minister of Defence paid close attention to addressing ongoing concerns related to national security and public welfare. He assessed the overall security framework of the area and held in depth discussions on current efforts to combat drug trafficking and other illegal activities, including illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
The Deputy Minister also focused on civilian land matters, reviewing ongoing processes and the current status of releasing state held lands back to the rightful owners to support community resettlement.
The Commander of the Army, Commander Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J), regional Divisional Secretaries (DSs), senior military officers, and high ranking government officials were also present during the site inspections.
