Colombo, Sri Lanka, July 2 -- Ministry of Defence and Urban Development issued the following news release:

The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), ceremonially declared open the Poson Zones established at the National Youth Corps Training Centre in Maharagama and the Poson Zone in Boralesgamuwa in view of the sacred Poson festival.

The Deputy Minister attended the events and joined other dignitaries to officially inaugurate the Poson Zones and take part in religious activities.

The Poson Zones featured beautifully illuminated decorations, devotional programs, dansel and bhakti gee performances, creating an atmosphere of religious reverence and community spirit. The Deputy Minister commended the organizers and volunteers for their dedicated efforts in preserving the country's rich Buddhist heritage and promoting social unity through such religious and cultural initiatives.

The events concluded with the Deputy Minister extending his best wishes to all devotees observing Poson and expressing hope that the festival would inspire all Sri Lankans to embrace the noble teachings of the Buddha in their daily lives.
