Colombo, Sri Lanka, Aug. 1 -- Ministry of Defence and Urban Development issued the following news release:
Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), undertook an inspection visit to the Trincomalee Naval Dockyard on 30 July (2026) to review the progress of key infrastructure development projects aimed at enhancing the operational capabilities of the Sri Lanka Navy.
Upon arrival, the Deputy Minister was received in accordance with military traditions by the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy and Commander of the Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage.
During the visit, the Deputy Minister inspected the construction of the floating dock and the new jetty currently being developed within the Trincomalee Naval Dockyard. These strategic infrastructure projects are being implemented to strengthen the Navy's operational readiness and support the country's national maritime security objectives.
Following an assessment of the progress of the projects, the Deputy Minister provided guidance to the relevant officials on expediting the construction work while ensuring efficiency and maintaining the required standards to facilitate their timely completion.
At the conclusion of the inspection, the Deputy Minister held a cordial discussion with Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage on matters relating to the ongoing development of the dockyard and the enhancement of naval capabilities. To mark the occasion, a commemorative memento was presented to the Deputy Minister.
Deputy Commander of the Eastern Naval Area, Commodore Haritha Jayadeva, along with senior naval officers and naval personnel, were also present during the visit.
