The Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG), Rear Admiral Rohan Joseph, paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), at his office today (27 March), marking his first official meeting with the Deputy Minister.
During the discussion, the SLCG Director General briefed the Deputy Minister on the current role and responsibilities of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, with particular emphasis on its coordination mechanisms with other law enforcement agencies in ensuring maritime safety and security.
The discussion also focused on proposed awareness programmes aimed at enhancing lifesaving knowledge among schoolchildren and youth. These initiatives are expected to strengthen public awareness of maritime safety and emergency response.
In addition, it was proposed to further enhance defence cooperation among relevant stakeholders, reinforcing collaborative efforts in addressing emerging security challenges.
