Colombo, Sri Lanka, March 26 -- Ministry of Defence and Urban Development issued the following news release:

A discussion aimed at addressing the longstanding concerns of residents in the Pallemunai area of Mannar was held at the Deputy Minister's Office in Colombo on 26 March.

The Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), chaired the discussion. The Divisional Secretary of Mannar, local community representatives, and senior officials of the Sri Lanka Navy attended the discussion.

During the deliberation particular attention was given to issues relating to housing issues and the challenges faced by the local fishing community. Participants engaged in a constructive dialogue to better understand the concerns of residents and to explore practical and sustainable solutions.

Special emphasis was placed on identifying feasible measures to address livelihood challenges faced by the fishing community, while also considering long-term solutions to housing-related issues in the area.

The duscussion set a platform for a cordial exchange of views and a shared commitment to take forward appropriate measures to address the concerns of the residents of Pallemunai in a sustainable and effective manner.
