Colombo, Sri Lanka, Oct. 7 -- Ministry of Defence and Urban Development issued the following news release:
The Head of Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Sri Lanka, Ms. Angelique Appeyroux, paid a courtesy call on the Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), at the Ministry of Defence in Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte today (7 October).
During the discussion, the Defence Secretary acknowledged the ICRC's longstanding and significant contribution towards promoting humanitarian values and ensuring adherence to the principles of International Humanitarian Law (IHL). He further reiterated the government's continued commitment to fostering cooperation with the ICRC in areas of mutual interest.
Ms. Appeyroux, expressing her appreciation for the Ministry's constructive engagement, reaffirmed the ICRC's commitment to working closely with Sri Lankan authorities in advancing humanitarian objectives. She also highlighted the importance of ongoing collaboration in addressing humanitarian challenges and strengthening institutional capacities.
