The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd.) met with Vice Admiral Fahad Al Ghofaily, Deputy Chief of General Staff, during his official visit to the World Defence Show (WDS) 2026. The talks focused on strengthening the longstanding bilateral relationship, with the Sri Lankan side expressing gratitude for Saudi assistance during recent national disaster.

Both parties emphasized the importance of professional military exchange, agreeing to enhance cooperation through Staff Talks and reciprocal participation in defence engagements. These initiatives aim to facilitate the exchange of operational knowledge and best practices between the armed forces of both countries.

The discussions focused on expanding training opportunities for SL military personnel, as well as securing assistance to bolster the surveillance capabilities and deep sea operational capacity of the Sri Lanka Navy. These capacity building efforts are aimed at countering illegal maritime activities and responding to evolving security challenges.

The meeting concluded on a highly positive note, with Vice Admiral Fahad Al Ghofaily and the Sri Lankan Deputy Minister of Defence reaffirming their mutual commitment to strengthening defence relations and maintaining close institutional cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka.
