A meeting to present the European Union-funded Climate Mobility Project was held today (24 March) at the Defence Ministry with the presence of the Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd).
The discussion was attended by a delegation from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), led by its Head of Mission for Sri Lanka, Kristin Parco.
During the meeting, the IOM delegation briefed the Defence Secretary on the objectives, strategic framework, and key interventions of the EU-funded Climate Mobility Project. The initiative aims to strengthen national capacities to address climate-induced mobility challenges through coordinated policy engagement, institutional collaboration, and targeted technical assistance.
The Defence Secretary underscored the growing importance of addressing climate-related migration in a structured manner. The discussion also highlighted the need for enhanced inter-agency coordination and sustained international cooperation to effectively respond to emerging challenges.
