Colombo, Sri Lanka, June 3 -- Ministry of Defence and Urban Development issued the following news release:
In line with the Vesak festival, the Ministry of Defence organized a series of religious programmes throughout the week within the Ministry premises. These religious observances included Dhamma discussions, almsgiving ceremonies, and Dansel which were conducted with the participation of the Ministry Staff.
Several Dansels were also organized by various branches of the Ministry, throughout the week as part of these observances. This welfare initiative was conducted on multiple days, providing refreshments and meals to participants.
The religious programmes culminated in a special Dhamma programme held at the Ministry on 02 June. The event was attended by senior officials and staff members of the Ministry.
The Dhamma sermon was delivered by Ven. Deniyaye Pannaloka Buddharakkitha Thero, Head of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies at the University of Kelaniya, who highlighted the timeless relevance of the Buddha's teachings in promoting compassion, mindfulness, and ethical conduct in contemporary society.
The week-long programme was organized to provide an opportunity for Ministry personnel to engage in religious observances and reflect on the values Vesak festival.
