Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Harini Amarasuriya graced the opening ceremony of the new Sasakawa Memorial Sri Lanka-Japan Cultural Centre in Colombo today (11 June) as the Chief Guest. Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), and Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), were among the distinguished guests who attended the event.
The opening of the new Sasakawa Memorial Sri Lanka-Japan Cultural Centre marks a significant milestone in Sri Lanka-Japan relations. It reflects the enduring partnership and shared commitment of both countries to continued cooperation, cultural understanding, sustainable development, diplomatic engagement, philanthropy, and mutual goodwill and respect.
The ceremony was also attended by His Excellency Akio Isomata, Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, and Mr. Yohei Sasakawa, Honorary Chairman of The Nippon Foundation. Cabinet Ministers, including the Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, Hon. Ramalingam Chandrasekar, and the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Hon. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi.
