The Radar Maintenance Wing at SLAF Base Katunayake proudly commemorated its 17th Anniversary on 20 September 2026. Established on 20 September 2009, the Wing has evolved into a vital maintenance organization responsible for ensuring the operational readiness and sustainability of radar systems supporting Sri Lanka's National Air Defence Network.
To mark this significant milestone, a customary Anniversary Day Working Parade was held at the Wing premises and reviewed by the Commanding Officer Group Captain GHSD Amarabandu. Addressing the gathering, the Commanding Officer highlighted the vital role played by the Radar Maintenance Wing in strengthening and sustaining the National Air Defence System over the past 17 years.
He also reflected on the Wing's evolution and highlighted its significant developments, technological advancements and Research and Development (R&D) initiatives undertaken over the years. These efforts have expanded the Wing's technical capabilities to include drone threat analysis and the repair and maintenance of drone defence systems, further enhancing its contribution to the nation's air defence capabilities. These achievements stand as a testament to the unwavering dedication, technical expertise and commitment of the officers and technicians of the Wing.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, the Wing also conducted a Shramadana campaign on 17 September 2026 and an almsgiving programme at the 'Mahosu' Child Development Centre in Unnaruwa, Minuwangoda, on 18 September 2026. Group Captain GHSD Amarabandu, Commanding Officer of the Radar Maintenance Wing, participated in both programmes alongside the officers and members of the Wing.
These initiatives reflected the Wing's continued commitment not only to operational excellence but also to community engagement, social responsibility and service to society, further reinforcing the values that have guided the Radar Maintenance Wing throughout its 17-year journey.
