Colombo, Sri Lanka, April 9 -- Ministry of Defence and Urban Development issued the following news release:

Marking a significant milestone in the history of war hero welfare, a special programme to donate modern electric wheelchairs to war-disabled veterans was held today (09 April) at the Ranaviru Seva Authority office under the patronage of its Chairman, Brigadier S. B. Kohona (Retd).

The programme, organized by the Ranaviru Seva Authority, is particularly noteworthy as, for the first time, such donations, previously made through private contributions, have been carried out entirely on government financial provisions.

Addressing the gathering, the Chairman of the RSA stated that facilitating the daily lives of war heroes with total disability remains a primary objective. He further emphasized that steps will be taken to expand such initiatives in the future to enhance the welfare of those who sacrificed their limbs for the nation.

The event was attended by staff of the Ranaviru Seva Authority, senior tri-forces officers, invitees, as well as the beneficiary war heroes and their family members.
