Royal Palms Beach Hotel (RPBH), Kalutara, was the only hotel recognised under the Hotel Sector - Service Large Category at the National Cleaner Production Awards 2025, marking its third consecutive win and demonstrating its commitment to upholding high sustainability standards. Renowned for combining five-star luxury with deep environmental responsibility, RPBH operates 119 Deluxe Rooms and 10 Suites and holds certifications including ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, ISO 22000:2018, HACCP, Travelife Gold, and Sri Lanka's first Eco Label Certification (EL-HS-1-2025). The hotel implements a 12R waste management system, treats over 80% of its waste, recycles and composts, and manages water efficiently through sensor taps, dual-flush toilets, rainwater harvesting, and wastewater recycling. Energy efficiency and carbon reduction are achieved through LED lighting, solar energy, heat pumps, a 60 kW EV Charger Station, and guest awareness initiatives, resulting in a 36% carbon footprint reduction between 2015 and 2018. RPBH is steadily advancing towards a single-use plastic-free experience with refillable toiletries, biodegradable packaging, and sustainable procurement, while preserving biodiversity, supporting community projects, and engaging in education and awareness programmes.
