The 13th Defence Services Hockey Tournament concluded yesterday (22 May 2025) at the Reed Avenue Hockey Grounds, marking the culmination of a highly competitive and spirited event that showcased the exceptional skill, teamwork and sportsmanship of the SLAF Hockey teams.
The SLAF Women's Hockey Team delivered an outstanding performance, emerging as Champions with a commanding 2-0 victory over the Sri Lanka Army Women's Team in the final encounter. Demonstrating superior coordination and tactical execution, the team secured a well-deserved win and claimed the Championship title.
In the Men's category, the SLAF Team exhibited commendable resilience and determination in a thrilling final match against the Sri Lanka Army Men's Team. With the scores levelled at 3-3 at the end of regular play, the match proceeded to a penalty shootout. Despite their resolute efforts, the SLAF Men's Team narrowly missed the championship, concluding the shootout at 3-1 and finishing as Runners-Up in the tournament.
The awards ceremony was held with the presence of Chairman of Sri Lanka Army Hockey, Major General Nalin Bandaranayake. Further, the event was attended by the Chairman of SLAF Hockey, Air Vice Marshal SC Wijayanayake and Secretary of SLAF Hockey, Group Captain Nalaka Etipola.
A special accolade was awarded to Corporal WIMP Weerabahu of the SLAF Women's Team, who was recognized as the Best Player in the Women's category for her exceptional performance throughout the tournament.
