Colombo, Sri Lanka, May 28 -- Sri Lanka Army issued the following news release:

The Directorate of Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation organised a medical camp for disabled and serving military personnel on 27 May 2025 at Abimansala 1 Wellness Resort, Anuradhapura. The initiative aimed to address the healthcare needs of Army veterans residing in the North Central Province.

Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, together with Mrs Swendrini Rodrigo, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit, graced the occasion as distinguished guests. Upon arrival, the Army Chief was warmly welcomed by the Commandant of Abimansala 1 and other Senior Officers.

During the visit, the Commander officially handed over a vehicle donated by the Presidential Secretariat to the wellness centre. Additionally, 10 wheelchairs and 15 crutches were symbolically distributed by the Commander and the ASVU President. Gift items and Buddha statues donated by Bhante Henepola Gunaratana Nayaka Thero were also presented to the participants and families of war heroes.

The event catered to over 2,000 beneficiaries including, disabled soldiers, retired personnel, inmates, and war heroes' family members those who are currently facing medical challenges. The medical camp included medical consultations, prosthetic maintenance, dermatology and dental clinics, mental health counselling and nutritional guidance.

Prior to attending the medical camp, the Commander of the Army paid courtesy calls on Atamasthanadhipathi, Most Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Thero and the Chief Incumbent of Ruwanweliseya, Most Ven. Eethalawetunawewe Gnanathillaka Thero receiving their blessings.
