Colombo, Sri Lanka, Oct. 1 -- Ministry of Defence and Urban Development issued the following news release:
A contingent of the Sri Lanka Army comprising 20 Officers and 55 Other Ranks successfully participated in the combined military exercise "Wolverine Path II - 2026", conducted jointly with the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Vladivostok, Russian Federation, from 18 to 25 September 2026.
The exercise, primarily focused on Counter Terrorism Operations, provided participating troops with a valuable opportunity to undergo realistic and challenging training in a combined operational environment. The exercise included key tactical activities such as Heli-Rappelling, Close-Quarters Battle (CQB), Ambush Operations, Sniper Firing, Drone Operations, Buggies Training and Combat Medical Support Enabling Sri Lankan troops to further develop their combat skills, tactical coordination and operational readiness.
The exercise also provided an important platform for the exchange of professional knowledge, operational experience and tactical expertise between the Sri Lanka Army and the Russian Armed Forces. Through joint training and interaction, Sri Lankan participants gained valuable exposure to the training methodologies, tactical approaches and operational practices adopted by the Russian Armed Forces.
The successful participation of the Sri Lanka Army contingent in the exercise contributed significantly towards enhancing the military professionalism, tactical awareness and operational preparedness of the participating personnel. It further provided an opportunity to identify valuable lessons and share experiences gained through combined training with a foreign military force.
Following the successful completion of the exercise, the Sri Lankan contingent returned to Sri Lanka and arrived at Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport on 28 September 2026. The participation in Exercise 'Wolverine Path II - 2026' marked another valuable opportunity for the Sri Lanka Army to enhance the professional knowledge and operational capabilities of its personnel while further promoting military-to-military cooperation, mutual understanding and professional relations between Russian Federation.
