Colombo, Sri Lanka, Nov. 25 -- Ministry of Defence and Urban Development issued the following news release:

The 9th ABU Media Summit on Climate Action and Disaster Prevention (CADP 2025) was inaugurated at the Mount Lavinia Hotel today (25 November). This event brings together regional media leaders, policymakers, and disaster-risk specialists for a three-day forum focused on strengthening climate resilience through media.

Hon.. Speaker (Dr.) Jagath Wickramaratne graced as the chief guest of the event held under the theme "Building Resilience Through Media: For a Cleaner, Greener, and Safer Tomorrow." Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) attended the event as a guest of honour.

The summit highlights the vital role of broadcasters in raising awareness, delivering early warnings, and empowering communities to prepare for climate-related challenges.

Organised by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union in partnership with the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, CADP 2025 aims to enhance disaster-preparedness reporting, promote community-driven climate communication, and foster long-term regional cooperation.

Hon. Minister of Health and Media Dr Nalinda Jayatissa, ABU Secretary-General Ahmed Nadeem, SLRC Chairman Gihan De Silva, SLRC Director General Manoja Nadeeshana Amarasinghe and many distinguished guests were among those present at the occasion.
