Colombo, Sri Lanka, July 10 -- Ministry of Defence and Urban Development issued the following news release:
The Tri Forces and the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) continue to play an active role in the nationwide dengue eradication effort, with hundreds of military personnel actively engaged in extensive environmental cleaning and vector control programmes being conducted across the island.
Acting on the directives of the Ministry of Defence, the Army, Navy, Air Force and the SLCG have mobilized hundreds of their personnel to conduct extensive islandwide dengue prevention initiatives while simultaneously extending their full support to the National Dengue Eradication Campaign spearheaded by the Ministry of Health. Through these coordinated efforts, large-scale cleaning operations have been carried out in urban, suburban and rural areas identified as vulnerable to dengue outbreaks, reinforcing the whole-of-government approach to combating the spread of the disease.
The continuing campaign has seen military personnel working alongside health officials, local government authorities and community organizations to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, clear overgrown vegetation, remove discarded containers and accumulated waste, clean public spaces, schools, government institutions, religious places and other high-risk locations, while assisting in awareness programmes aimed at encouraging communities to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
The Ministry of Defence commends the dedication and professionalism of the Tri-Forces and the Sri Lanka Coast Guard for their continued commitment to protecting the wellbeing of the public through these extensive islandwide operations. The Ministry also urges the general public to actively support the ongoing campaign by maintaining clean surroundings and eliminating potential mosquito breeding sites, emphasizing that collective action remains the key to effectively controlling the spread of dengue.
